Heres the way to do ultimate compression:

 

Use These Settings For WinUHA

 

Compression: ALZ-3(BEST)

Dictionary size: 32768KB

FileBuffer: 32768KB

 

Heres Sum Tests That Were Run:

 

- Using WinZIP 9.0 with Maximum Compression

221MB in 2m55s

 

- Using WinZIP 9.0 with Super Fast

242MB in 0m30s

 

- Using WinRAR 3.50 with Best Compression

175MB in 2m59s

 

- Using WinRAR 3.50 with Fastest Compression

215MB in 0m49s

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:3 mode with Directory 1024KB (12MB RAM used)

160MB in 10m15s

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:3 mode with Directory 32768KB (291MB RAM used, so you need at least 512MB system memory)

77.3MB in 10m15s

 

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:2 mode with Directory 1024KB (12MB RAM used)

160MB in 9m05s

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:2 mode with Directory 32768KB (291MB RAM used, so you need at least 512MB system memory)

77.7MB in 7m50s

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:1 mode with Directory 1024KB (12MB RAM used)

162MB in 7m10s

 

- Using WinUHA with ALZ:1 mode with Directory 32768KB (291MB RAM used, so you need at least 512MB system memory)

78.4MB in 6m05s

 

- Using WinUHA with LZP(Fast) mode with Directory 32768KB (291MB RAM used, so you need at least 512MB system memory)

Conclusion:

 

The Directory Size is the most important thing...I would always choose 32MB Directory size for faster and smaller file.

 

For the smallest file: WinUHA with ALZ:3 mode with Directory 32768KB is the winner with 77.3MB.

 

For the fastest compression: WinZIP 9.0 with Super Fast is the winner with only 30 sec, but file size is too big!!

 

The best combination I would use:

 

WinUHA with LZP(Fast) mode with Directory 32768KB for fast compression. Compression time doubles, but the file is only 44% of WinZIP.

 

WinUHA with ALZ:2 mode with Directory 32768KB for normal compression.

File is only 0.5% larger than ALZ:3 mode, but saves 24% of the time.

 

WinUHA with ALZ:1 mode with Directory 32768KB is another choice

File is only 1% larger than ALZ:3 mode, but saves 40% of the time.

 

 

So you See WinUHA Takes Top Place

I think I'll have a look at it. I have both Winrar and Winzip so I'll try this too.
