.TuG.Beaver
Found the following on cadred.org gaming site. It does not make good reading from a PC gamers persective... Seems like they are going with the stupid and totally useless p2p type of matchmaking that's used on the consoled and has been shown not to Fucking work at all on the PC.... If this all turns out to be true, then MW2 is not going to be the hit game that CoD4 was on the PC, and I love how all this info is only just coming out with less than a month until it arrives. I may just cancel my pre-order on this one, and thats not a joke JJ. Original story on Bashandslash.com - here It is one of the most highly anticipated game releases both for casual gamers and competitive players alike, yet today enthusiasts received a dose of reality that may have dampened any positive feeling they had. A webcast broadcast on the BASHandSlash.com website featured an interview with Infinity Ward Community Manager, Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling, will have been met with a bad reception by the majority of people awaiting the game. The good news was that the game was going to be released on time, quashing rumours about it being delayed, but that was pretty much the only positive thing on the menu for those wanting to play competitively. At the top of the gripe list will be the introduction of a system called IW.net that means there will likely be no dedicated servers and no room for any of the mods that make the game work in a competitive environment. For a modification such as promod to work it would have to be approved and then incorporated into IW.net. They also announced that PunkBuster will no longer be the recognised anti-cheat and MW2 will be moving to VAC, as well as the game being distributed through Steam. All of this casts a huge shadow on the competitive side of the game and will likely pose problems for leagues and competitions who have already picked up MW2 for tournament purposes. Yock Yitch from BASHandSlash.com summarized things as follows: General - IW partnering through Steam is what you will see in the future. Matchmaking is not through Steam, but IW.NET is run in conjunction with Steam. - GSP's will no longer be renting out servers. - No PunkBuster. VAC will be used as an anti cheat. - Retail distribution: Pre-orders will get a disk. Or you could order from Steam. - DLC may now need to be paid for - not confirmed. - Piracy was only a small reason for going to IW.NET - not the whole reason. Clans - No more clan servers. Private matches, replace clan servers. - Listen servers will connect to each other. - IW.NET/Steam will replace the community server admin Competitive Gaming - Competitive gaming has changed forever. - It might be possible in the future for IW engineers to load a "competitive" setting on IW.NET, but it is far from a guarantee. It might also never happen. Modding - Modding the game is now very much in question. Fourzerotwo had no info on modding. However, it appears that there will be no mods or maps for MW2. - Modding in SpecOps? Unknown. Other snippets. Here are the snippets: We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone. There is no delay for the PC version of MW2 There's prestige mode Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET. You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers. You have private matches where you can customize the game You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server. This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into. Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match. .TuG.Sherriff
What is going on with the developers at the moment? So many companies going towards the console gamer, PC market has gamers willing to pay for their products and they keep screwing us over royally! FPS games have a natural home on the PC, the mouse keyboard combination is ideally suited to point and shoot! If this is the case then it's another game that will be getting cancelled on my pre-order list! Sherriff P.S. I've just signed a petition about this idiotic decision, if you want to as well then add your voice to the angry shouting here MW2 Dedicated Server Petition Edited October 18, 2009 by .TuG.Sherriff

.TuG.Bulldog
This is indeed very anoying. Well as BF2 was the last game that i really enjoyed on the PC lets hope BF3 is a reality. I am just emailing my friend who works for EA to find out any insider info, i will post the responce. Why dont people just play platform, fighting and sport games on consoles like they used to... FPS does not belong on consoles! ps... i know this is bad but please keep some sort of restraint on your language, it does not make interesting or enjoyable reading.... .TuG.Beaver
One of the DICE developers already posted on twitter in a dig/repsonse to this - said something along the lines of "Dedicated servers FTW", indicating that they wouldnt be screwing over the PC community when BF3, etc come along!! .TuG.Sherriff
Story has now appeared on the Eurogamer site as well, who knows if the petition will make any difference, to ignore 50,000 potential customers seems like a foolish move to me, but is 50,000 that many in the grand scheme of the expected sales? I haven't cancelled yet, i'm hoping there will be some sort of response from the development team, if they don't come back with 'good' news then I will not be spending my money on this game. Disappointedly, Sherriff

Well, if those 50,000+ dont buy it on PC, with an average say of £34.99 per copy, thats 1.75million down the toilet right there - which is a pretty large number maybe.... Lets hope that all those companies like GAME, play etc are going mad right about now at IW/activision because everyone is cancelling their pre-order.... .TuG.DaveAlmighty
I was looking at the petition last night. I was constantly refreshing the page. There was a new signature on there EVERY SECOND. Absolutely shocking. There's been 30,000 more signatures since I checked 20 hours ago. That's almost a signature every 2 seconds. Just goes to show how retarded IW are. I will however still be buying the game, as I'd love to play the SP, and I'll live with playing it just online on random servers. Oh, and something for you. .TuG.DaveAlmighty
500 more people have signed since I posted this. 40 people in the 10 seconds I posted this! 100 more people. It's ridiculous. 5 people signed in 1 second at one point. Edited October 19, 2009 by .TuG.DaveAlmighty
