.TuG.JJUK
Hi All, i think my card is going , ive been looking at all the new shiny components and they have def moved on since my last upgrade, the prices have moved on to :0, it now looks like ATI have the bragging rights for there cards? but wow what a price and i see the new processors are the i7 series are these any good. Has anyone updated recently? I see Dell have some v/nice gaming rigs, pricy but nice.
.TuG.-Breaker
well, yeah, Atomic got himself a new rig, he has got a Core I5 i think, just like a friend of mine. He's really pleased with it! The I7 is actually a quad-core cpu, but it has got 4 more virtual cores. I don't know how that works really. Anyway, i would go for an NVidia anyway, GTX 275 and up. I think it's best if you wait for the complete new Nvidia series, they will also go for DX11 on those.
.TuG.Beaver
I've also been looking at the a new rig as mine is now 3 years old and was very tempted by the ATI 5850 gfx card, but the 5800 series are still way too expensive at the moment, because ATI cant get enough of the chips made, so we have a shortage of cards & high prices. I'd wait until March/April when Nvidia announce the new GF4xx (Fermi) range of cards and what the prices/horsepower is compared to the ATI's. As for CPU's. I've been looking at the i5-750 as its a decent price and very overclockable. If you have the extra cash, I'd look at a i7-920 D0 which is also very overclockable. Yoyotech currently do an £800 system baseed on the i5-750 & 5850 called the Firebird, which recently got added to the PC Pro A-List. Although you being JJ, you'll probably want the higher spec machine!!

.TuG.Bulldog
I just got a new one, its not the newest technologies but thats why its a bargain and it runs battle field at full everything which is the most hardware intensive thing out at the mo specs Dell XPS 630i (the nicest case i have ever had or seen for that matter) CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 / 2.5GHz / 1333MHz FSB / 6MB Cache RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHz HDD: 32gig SSD OCZ vertex Boot Disc + 2 x Raid 1 500GB SATA HDD) USB: 7 x USB2.0 (2x on Front) nVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 1gig old but still kicks ass! 2 x DVD-RW Sound Blaster X-Fi Card with Optical Out Bluetooth etc... Windows 7 64 bit So as i said not brand new tech but to be honest you dont need it. you can get one of these for about £600 - £1000 dependant on spec (i got a super bargain on ebay £400 but i got lucky) If i was specing a new machine i would get a i5 cpu you can clock them to i7 sepcs easily!! the direct x 11 cards are all way over priced at the mo! unless you find a bargain or you are super anal about your graphics get a direct x 10 card like a 4870 or better they are cheaper now and coming down in price fast about £100. the only differance is a bit of light rendering from the top end cards. i love building PC's but after using this dell and how stable it is, i would find it hard to go back to building my own. .TuG.Tweak
Here we go then upgrade time keep your phone on beaver Why go for that card mate? Really old tech, it'll bottleneck on an i7 machine. Should have gone for a GTX275 (as they are the best value) or better. But otherwise a good machine. .TuG.Bulldog
great kit JJ i got the 9800 gx2 and its fine... runs all at highest res with no lag. not much point in new card untill they make direct 11 more stable and worth while ... in my opinion it seems to cause too many crashes at the mo. also the 9800 still sell for £150 on ebay so easy and cost effective to upgrade when new card prices come down. nice ram! That sucks - I'm waiting until next month I think to upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram, then wait to see what happens with the new nvidia cards coming in july-august before I get a new gfx card. lots of nice games coming in the next 6-12months, so about time to update I think. .TuG.JJUK
Well i RMA the motherboard and they have sent it back saying the i have bent 1 pin?, i have received it back and there are actually 3 bent pins, well not quite bent they are just moved to one side, i cant understand how on earth these would of been bent, i also cant understand how they then can blame me for this when they have no proof. I have asked the to elaberate(poor spelling)on there finding as there are 3 pins slightly moved not bent and i cannot see how putting in a processor can of caused this at all, i have asked them to show me the proof athat i have damaged the product, they have been quite vague in there responses so ive tried once more then i will conatact the relevant standards to see if i can take it further I wouldnt of sent it back TBH but there are many with the same issues on overclockers forums and ASUS site which leads me to belive its a common fault not caused by me.
