St_Bond
This book covers state-of-the-art hardware and accessories that make the most modern personal computers easier, faster, and more productive to use. Inside these pages you will find in-depth coverage of every PC processor from the original 8088 to the latest Pentium 4, Athlon XP, and Athlon 64. Upgrading and Repairing PCs also doesn't ignore the less glamorous PC components. Every part of your PC plays a critical role in its stability and performance. Over the course of this book's 1,500+ pages, you'll find out exactly why your motherboard's chipset might just be the most important part of your PC and what can go wrong when you settle for a run-of-the mill power supply that can't get enough juice to that monster processor you just bought. You'll also find in-depth coverage of technologies such as RDRAM, DDR2 SDRAM, graphics, audio cards, AGP, PCI, flat-panel displays, DVD+/-RW drives, SCSI, USB 2.0, FireWire, and high-capacity removable storage-it's all in here-right down to the guts-level analysis of your mouse and keyboard. http://rapidshare.de/files/13343532/Que_-_UpgradRepair_Pcs_15thEd-B2.zip.html

Tantalus
I seem to remember the predecessor to this book (14th edition) was posted here not so long back.. This series is currently in it's 17th reprint (published 29 Mar 2006). Thus the edition to which you kindly link was printed in Aug 2003 and therefore nearly 3 years old. Unfortunately it does not cover any of today's technology such as Dual-Core processors. The tables referring to CPU sales for example are taken from early figures, and 'AMD' appear way down the list; Today, of course they are one of the major players alongside 'Intel'. The latest Graphics Card mentioned in the document is the RADEON 9700 PRO. This was the 'top-of-the-range' model in those days.. Now a budget item to say the least.. How do I know all this boring stuff? Because I read them.. As an Engineer and Systems Analyst my life revolves around technical documentation and official references. As a 'free' document this is a worthwhile aquisition. If you want a PC 'Bible' then you can't go far wrong with this series - but in print they are as heavy as lead and not an easy read - guaranteed to send to off to the land of nod at bedtime though.. or at your desk when in the office.. Guest Mortarion
True specs may change the basics will not. besides you will be amazed at the amounts of old hardware still floating around posted by Tantalus "This series is currently in it's 17th reprint (published 29 Mar 2006)." What time zone do you live in ???
