.TuG.Wizard
Telewest upgrade broadband speeds for free ...Communications Posted on Monday, April 26, 2004 at 10:49 by Laurence Norah Telewest, a UK based ISP, have today announced that their Blueyonder broadband services will all be upgraded to 50% faster services for free. The changes, which will all take place by the end of May, affect the following broadband services: The 512Kb service will increase to 750Kb and will continue to cost ?27.99 if used without any other Telewest service. The 1Mb service will increase to 1.5Mb and will continue to cost ?37.99 if used without any other Telewest service. The 2Mb service will increase to 3Mb, thereby becoming the UK's first ever residential 3Mb service, and will cost ?52.99 a month if used without any other Telewest service. This can only be good news for Telewest customers, who will no doubt be delighted with their free speed increases. Upstream bandwidths are not set to change however. New customers who purchase any of the above packages will also be eligible for the speed increases when they occur. This speed ramp raises the bar for cheap high speed residential internet access, and it will be interesting to see how other UK based ISP's react to these changes. A lot of providers have been making waves in the sub-512k and bandwidth metered packages recently, but not a lot has been happening in the higher speed arena. We're all for any change that brings cheaper and faster internet access to the masses, and hope the other providers will take up this challenge. We'll let you know if they do.
