Tantalus
I will not be able to join TS until I have uninstalled, removed, re-seated and re-installed my Temperamental Creative SB Audigy2 soundcard... which I will do tomorrow sometime.. I've had to do this once before.. It seems to be a known 'common' trait amongst creative cards... F**n' piece of s**...

Tantalus
OK! That's it, I am now officially a dumb old fart.. I am relinquishing my IEng status and membership of the Engineering Council of Great Britain and returning my Microsoft Certifications by first class mail.. to-whit: I physically removed the card, uninstalled the software, cleaned the registry & did a 'new' install.. Playback=Fine. Recording=No Luck.. Repeat the above again: No Luck.. I removed the card, threw it into my spares box, uninstalled the software, cleaned the registry and then Installed my MSI Mainboard's inbuilt 5.1 nVidia sound system.. Playback=Fine. Recording=No Luck!? I checked the plug connections, I tested the Mainboard output and (gamevoice) headset's continuity with a multimeter.. all fine.. but still no input from the mic.. Plugged a new mic into the gamevoice socket.. No luck. Plugged the Gamevoice USB lead back into my USB hub so I could see if a driver was missing.. Bing-Bong - XP detects Gamevoice device.. I look up from under my desk and the mass of wires and test equipment to note the Red Indication at center of the Gamevoice.. I lean forward and de-select the adjacent 'Mute' button .................
