Here's what I got mate, it's a lot cheaper now I think. You may even get a better processor for the same price. I would not touch an AMD chip at the moment, that's the only bit of advice I would stick to without question.

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply

well, i would recommend you to go with intel on every cost!

i can just say positive things about the c2d's(i got the e6750 @2*2,67 ghz)

its fast as hell and has a l2-cache of 4mb!

maybe you should take one of the newer core duos, e.g. the e8400 with standard clock of 2*3.0 ghz(costs like 130 quids atm, got 6 mb l2-cache)

and maybe take one of the nvidia 9800s, these ones have huuuuge potential

you might take 4 gb mushkin or ocz when using vista 64-bit version

otherwise 2gb is still good enough :)

I'm pretty sure I've got the 6600 quad core, and as far as I can tell (as I don't know how yours performs), shite me it's quick!

My system is still pretty fast but for gaming needs the video card is letting me down. also i would love to get a new board as this is socket 939 and i'm not sure they make chips for it anymore :frown:

Not only the chips are the problem, that board still uses ddrI memory instead of ddrII.

I'd suggest you try to sell those parts you don't need anymore, get a new Mobo, processor and graphic card the rest might be up to date still (sata hdd's?/dvd?) I'd get some black dvd drives, they would look a lot better....

My system a s939 amd X2 3800, geforce 7600 GT silent, 2 dvd/rw's 2x 500 gig hdd raid 0 was sold for 400

The Q6600 (Go stepping Version) runs at a stock 2.4ghz. With a very cheap cooler I've overclocked to 3ghz with very little increase in temperature. They use less voltage you see. This gives me comparable performance to a Quad extreme for 1/3 of the price. There are loads of websites with comparison reviews.

I used to have a 4400 dual core AMD, this is twice as fast in real terms. I would recommend getting this over a dual core as some of the newer games (Crysis and COD4 being the first) are optimised for quads. I can run Crysis at a good res with nearly everything on high at about 60fps, not bad. There isn't really that much difference at the moment between QUAD and Core Duo.

The new Penryn based systems run up to 1666mhz FSB, where as mine is 1066 FSB. It makes a lot of difference, they are still Intel 775 motherboards so all the current CPU's will work. I have heard reports of people overclocking the Penryn to 2ghz FSB with good results, amazing.

And I wouldn't recommend SLI to anyone. For double your money, you get 30% performance increase (provided the game supports it) I had an SLI system a while ago, and it didn't do what it promised. If you can afford it go with an 8800GT or above. The difference in cost to a 9 series Nvidia GPU isn't worth it either, and the dual 9900 is a rip off. They huge too, and eat a ridiculous amount of power.

It basically comes down to what you can afford really, I would keep that nice case though. lol
