  1. IndigoRose 'AutoPlay Media Studio 6.0' Anyone heard about it? Used it? Got it?
  2. The links above are just for information only (I presume). As an individual I reserve the right to visit them or not, the fact that information on certain URL's appears above (or below depending on how your forum prefrences are set) does not have any direct influence on whether the site(s) appear in my browser - In direct comparison I refer the honourable gentlemen to a court case involving a driver who was prosecuted for obstruction when noticed flashing his headlights at oncoming drivers to warn them of a speed trap; The court ruled that it could not be certain that flashing of the individuals headlights actually had any direct effect on any other drivers course of action and to that end was found not guilty. Towhit, I belive the information contained in this thread to have no direct effect on my course of action, unless so proven. The case for the defence rests me'lud..
  3. Looks nice .. I'll give that Steganos stuff a try too.. ..ever the klepto .. I (may) downloading as we speak.. I may also not Many Thanks!!
  4. Thanks very much Bundu.. I am looking into it as I type..
  5. ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 9.0 Home Can anyone point me in the right direction to way of getting hold of 'Acronis True Image 9' ?? The official site for the trial is painfully slow, even on broadband I can get no more than 10K! So I think their server is stuffed.. I already have version 7.0 installed on my laptop and wish to 'upgrade'. This is purely so that I may assess the software as to it's suitability for the job(s) I have in mind and as a comparison against 'Ghost v9' which I also have. If it comes with any form of 'serial' or 'key' that would be a bonus and it would save me looking for one.. Should I like the software I shall of course buy it.. ahem.. Many Thanks..
  6. You have .... we just haven't told you yet.. :ninja: :ninja: (goodness knows what she would have made of some the 'mad jock' accents we have up here in Scotland )

wrong. Game Server: Game servers dedicated for public consumption often need to be powerful machines. The goal is to provide a positive gaming experience for gamers who choose to play on your servers, and the mechanics should be transparent to them. That means the server has to run the game without a hitch. Hardware depends on the game - HL2 is CPU intensive, CoD, GR etc are not so bad. Fast Hard drives are also good to have for a server, but PING is the most important for fast gameplay as we all know. I'd recommend a minimum of a P4 2Ghz and 512Kb-1Gb of Ram. Edit: Just ask Beaver about the specs of the .TuG. Amsterdam servers to get an idea of just how much CPU power is needed to 'send out' some of today's games.. If it only took an average machine then we'd all be hosting our own BF2 servers from home and nobody would make any money from 'hosting'. IMHO.
  8. GMT of course - But often I reside in my own little world on a completely different planet Yes, I did mean 29th .. It's only available to the public on Pre-Order right now.. Here are the full details: ISBN: 0789734044; Published: Mar 29, 2006; Pages: 1608; Edition: 17th. PS - Is it just me or should we have a 'Bablefish' addon within the forum purely for Kiimii's posts..
  9. I seem to remember the predecessor to this book (14th edition) was posted here not so long back.. This series is currently in it's 17th reprint (published 29 Mar 2006). Thus the edition to which you kindly link was printed in Aug 2003 and therefore nearly 3 years old. Unfortunately it does not cover any of today's technology such as Dual-Core processors. The tables referring to CPU sales for example are taken from early figures, and 'AMD' appear way down the list; Today, of course they are one of the major players alongside 'Intel'. The latest Graphics Card mentioned in the document is the RADEON 9700 PRO. This was the 'top-of-the-range' model in those days.. Now a budget item to say the least.. How do I know all this boring stuff? Because I read them.. As an Engineer and Systems Analyst my life revolves around technical documentation and official references. As a 'free' document this is a worthwhile aquisition. If you want a PC 'Bible' then you can't go far wrong with this series - but in print they are as heavy as lead and not an easy read - guaranteed to send to off to the land of nod at bedtime though.. or at your desk when in the office..

    Help!!

When correctly logged into the forum the menu bar will show User CP FAQ Member List Calendar... etc etc Select User CP : A control panel will appear down the left side of your page. Looking a bit like this.. [Control Panel] [settings & Options] from the list select Edit Avatar A large window will now appear on your screen with lots of avatar pictures. Look further down the page and you will see a 'radio' button named: O Use Custom Avatar. Place a dot in the radio button then look underneath for a blank box with 'Upload an avatar from your Computer' - Click the [Browse] button and find a suitable sized graphic on your pc.. Don't forget to click on the [Save Changes] button at the foot of the page or it will have all been in vain..
  11. Erm, I have an embarrassing rash.. .... or have I gone off topic again?
  12. There are a great deal of programs which will do what you ask - including Nero, which is by far the simplest option because it is so 'widely available' via a number of internet sources.... NeroVision Express is the part of Nero which you require. In version 6 it is contained in the second download package. All you do is select make DVD Video, import your movie file(s), and then construct your 'menu' options; such as title, button style, background picture, menu music etc.,etc. Purely for conversion I tend to use WinAVI; details of which can be found HERE - it gives you a great choice of conversion options and quality levels but with early versions the result still has to be burned to media, with the likes of Nero or other burning software. The latest version is an all-in-one package and includes burning options. This software too can be found around the internet for a 'greatly reduced price' if you look in the right places.. Having just visited their website, CuSoft products look to be a reasonable alternative, but having never used it I cannot comment with any authority. Just remember you get what you pay for, normally in terms of product support and updates etc... and as my granny used to say "Buy Cheap and you Buy Twice" more often than not she was right.. I hope this information is of use in your quest for the ultimate digital conversions..

  14. That's nice Bulldog.. I like PC-Pitstop too and it too likes me - This is the message I received:
  15. I think his finger struck the '3' instead of the '4' - thus '1023' instead of the regular '1024' .. maybe he borrowed Bulldog's boxing gloves for typing.. Note: even then he's only missed out a single 'Kilobyte' or 1024 Bytes or 8192 Bits depending on how you want to look at it... (and we are not even going to go down the metric route whereby 1bit/byte - because only lesbians, homo's and non-technical 'duffers' head that way..) IMO
  16. What about raising a support enquiry with EA Games to see what can be done about your account name? I wouldn't hold your breath though!
  17. Bulldog, for f**s sake Stop typing with your Boxing gloves on!
  18. The December issue of 'Computer Shopper' contained an article about systems for under ?850. Given the prices of purchasing individual components from online retailers, nowadays you barely save an decent sized margin by building yourself - I have always built my own systems but I am finding it increasingly difficult to compete with the 'purchasing power' of the major PC manufacturers. The results of the article can be seen HERE. Also have a look at these systems and see what you think: PCNextday Zoostorm and Mesh Matrix. Most systems can be configured to suit your budget. Happy Shopping!
  19. Given the above information I offer the following as an avenue for deliberation: 1. Provider: Have you searched the net for any others with a problem such as your own? I have just done a google on "Broadband drops on NTL" and come up with numerous forum posts. If NTL have stated that your line is correct could it be something to do with your router/modem? 2. Hardware: You do not tell us what hardware you are using to connect to the internet, all I can assume from the fact that your ISP is NTL is that your PC is connected via a cable modem provided by them. Again trawl the net for any hardware related drop-out topics on forums. Netgear modem/routers are prone to drop-outs on a regular basis due to heat related problems (a capacitor on the main circuit board seems to be at fault), a fact I am all to aware of given that my "Netgear" wireless network can be an absolute Ass at times! 3. Connection settings: Make sure that your MTU settings are correct for your type of connection. Problems with internet have been known to be caused (in part) by packet-loss, which can result in failure to connect and/or slow connection speeds. The MTU for a typical ADSL connection should ideally be no more than 1492 but for cable it can be as high as 1500. On BT anything higher than 1492 results in fragmented packets and thus a slow-down of data transfer. Use CyberTweak to optimise your connection (hyperlinked from my webspace at the end of this reply) and check your speed using Broadband Speed-Test (also hyperlinked). You may need to experiment to get the best results, but aim for zero fragmentation. 4. Firewall Software: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite is a comprehensive Firewall, AntiVirus and Antispyware suite with a small system overhead when compared to the likes of Norton. You will find this at my webspace for your consideration. It is saved as a .rar file with a suitable serial for approximately 106 years of updates. 5. Spyware: It is possible that your computer has become infected with spyware - This sort of infestation will not usually be detected by a 'regular' anti-virus suite. Employ the likes of Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy to check your system for infestation. A handy utility for checking your system for running processes is Hijackthis, which can be used to spot unauthorised activities by analysis of it's produced logs. Another preventative measure is the use of SpywareBlaster, this is also a free utility which resides on your system and prevents certain malware activities. All above programs hyperlinked from my webspace. 6. Last resort: The dreaded re-install of your operating system complete with the latest drivers and updates. I hope the above helps. Here are the hyperlinks in question. All are linked to my own webspace so there will be no queue and download speeds should be at an optimium. Good Luck. 20. Concurr with your choice of maps - I hadn't seen the complete list as it doesnt fully show in the 'game browser'. The Gulf map is a great map for teamplay if you get it right! As for the title I was merely brainstorming; you're right a name doesn't have as great an effect as does the running map - but I think the word 'Ranked' in a title means at least the less 'technical' of players can know they are going to get some more points towards another medal/award.. As for being picky, well, I think you've been hitting that Dandelion & Burdock a little to hard of late ... Cheers!!
  21. Very Good. I'll pass it on to my wife. She'll like that one. (Only thing is, I had to find an Atlas to see where all those places were!)
  22. I am wondering if the reduced numbers of players active in the server is anything to do with finding it on the in-game list or it's advertised name.. It never seems to be anywhere near the top of my scanned list; I only ever join it because the IP is down in my list of favourites. Could it be the 'Full-stop' (period - for you americans out there) at the beginning of the Tag is having a detrimental effect on it being found? Could perhaps a change of title bring in more 'customers'? I know I tend to go for those advertised with 'UK' and 'Ranked' in the titles - maybe a name like " Ghosts UK+EURO =RANKED= " might (a) be easier to find and ( seem more appealing. The same could go for the one over the pond eg., " Ghosts USA = RANKED= " I noticed when in-game the server pop-up messages for the Euro server stated "Welcome to the .... Dallas" - with a 34 ping I must be cooking with gas! Either that or a line from the Dallas config has found its copy/paste way into the Amsterdam server... Also noted - the blurb at the joining screen must be at a character limit because it only gets so far as saying that .TuG. players are admins before the sentence is cut-off in mid-flow.. Some might say I'm just being picky - But I prefer it to be looked upon as just being 'thorough'. Observant as always. Tantalus.
